Samuel Mitchell Brinson (born March 20, 1870 in New Bern , North Carolina , †  April 13, 1922 there ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1922 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Brinson attended both public and private schools and then studied at Wake Forest College until 1891 . He then worked as a teacher in New Bern for a year. After a subsequent law degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his admission to the bar in 1896, he began to work in this profession in New Bern. Between 1902 and 1919 he served as a school councilor in Craven County . From 1918 Brinson was also president of the Atlantic & North Carolina Railroad .

Politically, Brinson was a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1918 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded George E. Hood on March 4, 1919 . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on April 13, 1922 . The 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified in 1919 and 1920 . Samuel Brinson was buried in his hometown of New Bern.
