Jim Broyhill

James Thomas "Jim" Broyhill (born August 19, 1927 in Lenoir , North Carolina ) is a former American politician of the Republican Party . Broyhill was from January 3, 1963 to January 3, 1969 a member of the United States House of Representatives for North Carolina's 9th District and then represented the 10th District until July 14, 1986.

On July 14, 1986, Broyhill was named a Class 3 Senator from North Carolina. He took over this post after his predecessor, John Porter East , committed suicide. Broyhill also officially ran for the successor to East, but was subject to the Democrat Terry Sanford . After the end of his tenure as a Senator on November 4, 1986, Broyhill largely withdrew from politics.

Broyhill is married to Louise and has three children.
