John M. Brower
John Moorehead Brower (born July 19, 1845 in Greensboro , North Carolina , † August 5, 1913 in Paris , Texas ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .
Career
As a toddler, John Brower came to Mount Airy , North Carolina with his parents , where he initially received a private education. He later graduated from Mount Airy Male Academy . In the following years he worked in agriculture, specializing in tobacco growing. He also worked in trade. Politically, Brower became a member of the Republican Party , whose regional congresses he attended in North Carolina between 1872 and 1896 as a delegate. Between 1876 and 1878 he was a member of the North Carolina Senate .
In the congressional election of 1886 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded James W. Reid on March 4, 1887 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . From 1889 he was chairman of the Committee for the Control of Expenditures of the Ministry of Post. In 1890 he was defeated by the Democrat Archibald Williams .
Between 1896 and 1898, John Brower was an MP in the North Carolina House of Representatives . Otherwise, he resumed his previous activities. In 1907 he moved to Boswell , Oklahoma, where he worked in the timber, ranching and other agricultural sectors. He died on August 5, 1913 in Paris, Texas and was buried in Mount Airy.
