David Price

David Eugene Price (born August 17, 1940 in Erwin , Unicoi County , Tennessee ) is an American politician . Since 1987 he has represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives with one interruption .

Career

David Price attended Unicoi County High School and then Mars Hill College in North Carolina between 1957 and 1959 . This was followed by studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill until 1961 . Until 1969 he studied theology and philosophy at Yale University . Between 1963 and 1967, Price served on the staff of US Senator Bob Bartlett from Alaska . From 1973 to 1986 and again in 1995 and 1996 he was a lecturer at Duke University in Durham .

Politically, Price joined the Democratic Party . In 1981 and 1982 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee . He then led the party leadership in North Carolina from 1983 to 1984. In the 1986 congressional election , Price was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of his state , where he succeeded Bill Cobey on January 3, 1987 . After three re-elections, he was initially able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1995 . In the 1994 elections he was defeated by Republican Fred Heineman .

In 1996, Price regained his previous seat in Congress. As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. He is or was a member of the Approval Committee and three of its sub-committees. He is also a member of several caucuses . He was an opponent of the Iraq war from the start . David Price has been married since 1968 and has two children.
