Frank W. Ballance Jr. (born February 15, 1942 in Windsor , Bertie County , North Carolina - † February 22, 2019 ) was an American politician . Between 2003 and 2004 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frank Ballance attended the WS Etheridge High School in his native Windsor until 1959 . He then studied until 1963 at North Carolina Central University in Durham . This was followed by a law degree until 1965. Ballance subsequently worked as a lawyer, among other things. In 1968 he served in the North Carolina National Guard, whose reserve he was a member until 1971. He taught law at South Carolina State College in 1965 and 1966 .

Politically, Ballance joined the Democratic Party . Between 1982 and 1985 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives ; from 1989 to 2002 he was a member of the State Senate . In the 2002 congressional elections , Ballance was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Eva M. Clayton on January 3, 2003 . In Congress he became a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Committee on Small Business . On June 11, 2004, he resigned from his office for health reasons. After a by-election, this went to GK Butterfield .

Later in 2004, Frank Ballance came into conflict with the law. On September 2, he was charged with various offenses, including money laundering and extortion . In October 2005, he was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $ 10,000. He began his detention on December 30, 2005 and was released in June 2009. Frank Ballance was married and had three children.
