John Edgar Fowler

John Edgar Fowler (born September 8, 1866 in Clinton , North Carolina , †  July 4, 1930 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Fowler attended public schools in his home country and then graduated from Wake Forest College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1894, he began to work in Clinton in this profession. Between 1895 and 1903 he was also the curator of the State Normal College for Women in Greensboro .

Politically, Fowler joined the Populist Party in the 1890s . He was a member of the North Carolina Senate in 1895 and 1896 . In the congressional elections of 1896 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of his state , where he succeeded John G. Shaw on March 4, 1897 . Until March 3, 1899 he was able to complete a legislative term in Congress . This was shaped by the events of the Spanish-American War .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Fowler practiced law again. He also worked in agriculture. He was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1905 and 1906 . John Fowler died in Clinton on July 4, 1930.
