Clinton L. Cobb

Clinton Levering Cobb (born August 25, 1842 in Elizabeth City , North Carolina , †  April 30, 1879 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1875 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Clinton Cobb attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . After a subsequent law degree and his license to practice law in 1867, he began to work in Elizabeth City in this profession. He also worked in trade.

Cobb became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1868 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded John R. French on March 4, 1869 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1875 . From 1871 he was chairman of the Committee on the Freedman's Bureau . In 1874 it was not confirmed.

After retiring from the US House of Representatives, Clinton Cobb practiced law again in Elizabeth City, where he died on April 30, 1879.
