John M. Faison

John Miller Faison (born April 17, 1862 in Faison , Duplin County , North Carolina , †  April 21, 1915 there ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1915 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Faison attended Faison Male Academy and then until 1883 Davidson College . After studying medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and the New York Polyclinic and being admitted as a doctor in 1885, he began to work in this profession in his hometown of Faison. He also worked in agriculture.

Politically, Faison was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1898 and 1906 he was a member of its board of directors at both the district and state levels. In the 1910 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Charles Thomas on March 4, 1911 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1915 . During this time the 16th and 17th amendments to the constitution were ratified there.

In 1914 Faison declined to run again. He died just a few weeks after the end of his last legislative term on April 21, 1915 in Faison, where he was also buried.
