Peter Forney

Peter Forney (born April 21, 1756 in Lincolnnton , Lincoln County , Province of North Carolina , †  February 1, 1834 in Lincoln County, North Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Peter Forney was the father of Daniel Munroe Forney (1784–1847) and the grandfather of William Henry Forney (1823–1894), both Congressmen. He attended the public schools in his home country. During the war of independence he was a captain. Then he worked in iron processing. At the same time he began a political career. In the late 1790s he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . Between 1794 and 1796 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Carolina . Between 1801 and 1802 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional election of 1812 Forney was elected in the then newly created 13th  constituency of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1813. Since he renounced another candidacy in 1814, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1815 . This was shaped by the events of the British-American War .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Forney withdrew from politics. He died on February 1, 1834, at his Mount Welcome manor in Lincoln County.
