William Salter Blackledge

William Salter Blackledge (* 1793 in Pitt County , North Carolina , †  March 21, 1857 in New Bern , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1821 and 1823 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Salter Blackledge was the son of Congressman William Blackledge, who died in 1828 . The younger Blackledge moved to New Bern in his youth. Until 1813 he studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In 1820 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives .

After the death of MP Jesse Slocumb , Backledge was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election due for the fourth seat of North Carolina , where he took up his new mandate on February 7, 1821. Since he had been elected for the following legislative period at the same time, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1823 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, William Blackledge did not hold any other political office. He died on March 21, 1857 in New Bern, where he was buried.
