Meshack Franklin

Meshack Franklin (* 1772 in Surry County , Province of North Carolina , †  December 18, 1839 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1807 and 1815 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Meshack Franklin was the younger brother of Governor and US Senator Jesse Franklin (1760-1823). Little is known about his life outside of politics. He became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . He was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1800 and 1801 .

In the congressional elections of 1806 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Israel Pickens on March 4, 1807 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1815 . During this time the British-American War of 1812 fell . Franklin was a member of the North Carolina Senate for 1828, 1829, and 1838 . He died on December 18, 1839 on his Surry County estate.
