Risden Tyler Bennett

Risden Tyler Bennett (born June 18, 1840 in Wadesboro , Anson County , North Carolina , †  July 21, 1913 there ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Risden Bennett attended his home public schools and the Anson Institute . He then studied at Cumberland University and Lebanon Law School in Tennessee . During the Civil War , Bennett served in the Confederation Army , where he rose from solitary to colonel. He was wounded several times. Bennett served as the prosecutor in Anson County in 1866 and 1867. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1872 and 1874 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives . In 1875 he was a delegate at a meeting to revise the state constitution. From 1880 to 1882 he served as a judge on the Superior Court .

In the 1882 congressional election , Bennett was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . This election for the re-established ninth mandate of North Carolina was exceptionally nationwide. In 1884 he was confirmed in the sixth electoral district as the successor to Clement Dowd . This enabled him to complete two legislative terms in Congress between March 4, 1883 and March 3, 1887 . From 1885 he was chairman of the Foreign Ministry's expenditure control committee.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Risden Bennett practiced as a lawyer in Wadesboro. He died there on July 21, 1913.
