Charles H. Taylor

Charles Hart Taylor (born January 23, 1941 in Brevard , Transylvania County , North Carolina ) is an American politician . Between 1991 and 2007 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Taylor attended Brevard High School and was then until 1966 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem , where he studied law, among other things. Later he worked in the cattle breeding. He also runs a few tree nurseries in northwest North Carolina and does banking. Politically, Taylor joined the Republican Party . He was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1967 to 1973, and a member of the State Senate from 1973 to 1975 . In 1988 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . In the 1990 elections , Taylor was elected to the Eleventh Constituency of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James M. Clarke on January 3, 1991 . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2007.

Taylor was considered one of the most conservative MPs of his time. At times he was a member of the influential grant committee . Taylor was one of the wealthiest congressmen because of his work as a director of the Blue Ridge Savings Bank in Asheville . He was also involved in setting up a bank in Ivanovo , Russia . In September 2006, the ethics organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) accused him of corruption because of his numerous business connections . Despite these allegations, no official investigations have been initiated against him. During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell .

In 2006 Taylor was defeated by the Democrat Heath Shuler . In the following years he continued his extensive business activities. Charles Taylor is married and lives in his birthplace, Brevard.
