Charles W. McClammy

Charles Washington McClammy (born May 29, 1839 in Scotts Hill , Pender County , North Carolina , †  February 26, 1896 there ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles McClammy studied after a good primary school education until 1859 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He then worked as a teacher until 1861. During the Civil War he served in the Confederation Army , where he made it to major in a cavalry unit from North Carolina. After the war he worked in agriculture. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In 1866, McClammy was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives; In 1871 he became a member of the State Senate . In the congressional election of 1886 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Wharton Jackson Green on March 4, 1887 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . In 1890 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, McClammy returned to farming. He died on February 26, 1896 in his native Scotts Hill.
