Evan Shelby Alexander
Evan Shelby Alexander (* around 1767 in Mecklenburg County , Province of North Carolina , † October 28, 1809 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1806 and 1809 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .
Career
The exact date of birth, the place of birth and the place of death of Evan Alexander are not known. He was a cousin of Congressman and Governor Nathaniel Alexander (1756-1808). He attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1787 Princeton College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Salisbury in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . From 1796 to 1803 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Carolina . He was also the curator of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between 1799 and 1809 .
After his cousin Nathaniel Alexander stepped down as Congressman, he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the tenth seat of North Carolina , where he took up his new mandate on February 24, 1806. After a re-election he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1809 . Evan Alexander died the same year he left Congress on October 28, 1809.
