Anderson Mitchell
Anderson Mitchell (born June 13, 1800 in Milton , Caswell County , North Carolina , † December 24, 1876 in Statesville , North Carolina) was an American politician . In 1842 and 1843 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Anderson Mitchell first attended Bingham's School and then studied until 1821 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in Morgantown in 1830 in this profession. He moved to Jefferson in 1831 and to Wilkesboro in 1835 . In the meantime, he was employed in the administration at the Ashe County District Court .
Politically, Mitchell was a member of the Whig Party . After the death of Member of Parliament Lewis Williams , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for election to the 13th seat of North Carolina , where he took up his new mandate on April 27, 1842. Until March 3, 1843 he could only end the current legislative period in Congress . Then the 13th constituency was dissolved. A candidacy in another district was unsuccessful.
Mitchell was an MP in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1852 to 1854 . In 1860 he was elected to the State Senate. In 1861 he was a delegate at the meeting at which the exit of North Carolina from the Union was decided; Mitchell voted against secession. Between 1865 and 1875 he was a judge in the Superior Court . He died in Statesville on December 24, 1876.
