Duncan McFarlan
Duncan McFarlan (* in Laurel Hill , Scotland County , North Carolina ; † September 7, 1816 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1807 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Duncan McFarlan attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. At the same time he began a political career. In 1792 he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives. Between 1793 and 1809 he sat several times in the State Senate . In the late 1790s he joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In 1802 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .
In the 1804 congressional election , McFarlan was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Samuel D. Purviance on March 4, 1805 . Until March 3, 1807 he was able to complete a term in Congress. After retiring from the US House of Representatives, Duncan McFarlan worked in commerce and agriculture. He died on September 7, 1816 in his native Laurel Hill.
