Archibald Henderson (politician)

Archibald Henderson (born August 7, 1768 in Williamsboro , Granville County , Province of North Carolina , †  October 21, 1822 in Salisbury , North Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1799 and 1803 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Archibald Henderson attended the public schools in his home country and Springer College . He moved to Salisbury around 1790. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in his new hometown. Politically, Henderson joined the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton .

In the congressional elections of 1798 he was elected in the eighth constituency of North Carolina in the then still meeting in Philadelphia US House of Representatives, where he succeeded Dempsey Burges on March 4, 1799 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1803 . During this time, in 1800, Congress moved to the new federal capital Washington, DC

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Archibald Henderson practiced again as a lawyer in Salisbury. Between 1807 and 1820 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives on several occasions . He died on October 21, 1822 in Salisbury, where he was also buried.
