Frank Ertel Carlyle

Frank Ertel Carlyle (born April 7, 1897 in Lumberton , Robeson County , North Carolina , †  October 2, 1960 there ) was an American politician . He represented the state of North Carolina as a member of the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frank Carlyle attended Robeson County public schools and the Wilson Memorial Academy in Nyack , New York . He then graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . During World War I he served in the United States Navy . He was admitted to the bar on January 31, 1921 and then opened a practice in Lumberton.

He was later elected solicitor for North Carolina's Ninth Judicial District in 1938, 1942, and 1946. He held this position until his election to Congress . Carlyle was elected a Democrat in the 81st and three subsequent Congresses. His term of office ran from January 3, 1949 to January 3, 1957. He ran for re-election in 1956, but was not nominated again by his party. During his tenure in Congress, he was involved in the constitution of the Southern Manifesto , which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions.

Frank Carlyle died in Lumberton on October 2, 1960 and was buried in Meadowbrook Cemetery .
