Daniel Munroe Forney

Daniel Munroe Forney (born February 1784 in Lincolnnton , Lincoln County , North Carolina , †  October 15, 1847 in Lowndes County , Alabama ) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1818 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Daniel Forney was the son of Congressman Peter Forney (1756-1834), who sat for North Carolina in the US House of Representatives in 1813 and 1815, and an uncle of William Henry Forney (1823-1894), who between 1875 and 1893 Represented Alabama State in Congress . He attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . Then he worked in agriculture. He was a major in the American armed forces during the British-American War of 1812 . In his home country he held a number of local offices.

Politically, Forney was a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1814 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Meshack Franklin on March 4, 1815 . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his resignation in 1818. In 1820, Forney was named negotiator with the Creek by President James Monroe . Between 1823 and 1826 he was a member of the North Carolina Senate .

In 1834 Forney moved to Lowndes County, Alabama, where he worked in various other industries in addition to agriculture. He died there on October 15, 1847.
