John G. Shaw

John Gilbert Shaw (born January 16, 1859 in Fayetteville , North Carolina , †  July 21, 1932 there ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Shaw attended the public schools in his home country and then worked in the ship supply trade. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1888, he began to work in Fayetteville in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1888 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives . Between 1890 and 1894 he was a prosecutor in Cumberland County .

In the 1894 congressional election , Shaw was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Benjamin F. Grady on March 4, 1895 . Since he was not confirmed in 1896, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Shaw practiced law again. Politically, he no longer appeared. He died in Fayetteville on July 21, 1932.
