Fort Defiance |
Lenoir is a city ( City ) and the administration in Caldwell County , North Carolina in the United States . The place in the west of the state is at the foot of the Brushy Mountains , part of the Blue Ridge Mountains . Together with the towns of Hickory in Catawba County and Morganton , Lenoir forms the metropolitan region of The Unifour .
It is named after William Lenoir, a general of the American Revolutionary War and founder of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , who lived here in Fort Defiance.
