The Brushy Mountains are a mountain range in the northwest of the state of North Carolina on the east coast of the United States . The heavily eroded portion of the larger Blue Ridge Mountains , a section of the Appalachian Mountains , is isolated from its source by the Yadkin River and its valley.

From southwest to northeast, the Brushies, also known as the Brushies , separate two of North Carolina's largest rivers, the Yadkin and the Catawba Rivers , while running through five counties : Caldwell County , Alexander County , Wilkes County , Iredell County, and Yadkin County . The mountain range is only about 6 to 12 kilometers wide and stretches over a length of over 70 kilometers with the highest point, the Pores Knob , at 817 meters above sea level. The average height of the brushies is between 90 and 250 above sea level.
