Harry Heltzer

Harry Heltzer (born August 22, 1911 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † September 21, 2005 in Lenoir , North Carolina ) was an American manager and former CEO of 3M .

Life

Harry Heltzer was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1911 to Edward and Anna G. Heltzer. As a child, he moved to Minnesota with his family. He graduated from Minneapolis North High School . In 1933 he finished his studies in metallurgy at the University of Minnesota . His first job was in the 3M Group's Abrasives Laboratory in St. Paul , Minnesota .

Heltzer became director of 3M in 1965 and CEO in 1966. In a few years he was able to increase 3M's profit by 76 percent and expand the company into 150 countries around the world. In 1976 he withdrew into private life. The Harry Heltzer / 3M Chair was established at the University of Minnesota.

In 1975 he married Elizabeth Kent (Jerri) Heltzer, who survived him. Just like his son and daughter, as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Harry Heltzer died after several years of clinical care at the age of 94 at his home in Lenoir, NC
