In the 18th century, the church was rebuilt and in the middle of the 19th century it received its current fittings .

history

Between 1252 and 1264 Veitriedhausen was referred to as secundum Rithhousen and from 1269 as Riethusen superius to distinguish it from Frauenriedhausen . In 1310 the place name appeared for the first time in connection with the church patronage as Riethusen, since sant Vit is the landlord , which can be seen as evidence of the existence of a church. A first church in Veitriedhausen is already accepted for the High Middle Ages and is traced back to the foundation of the village, since in the 10th and 11th centuries St. Veit (or Vitus) was often chosen as the patron saint of churches. The church of Veitriedhausen was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1393. It is believed that the old church was a choir tower church and that the tower substructure was built in the 15th century. The building suffered great damage during the Thirty Years War and the restoration of the church was not completed until 1684. In 1701 a new tower was built, in 1728 the church was rebuilt and from 1860 to 1866 it was equipped with today's furnishings.

Until 1928 Veitriedhausen belonged to the parish of Gundelfingen , after which it became a branch of Frauenriedhausen . In 1987 the church was renovated outside and in 1999 inside.

architecture

The building is made of plastered brickwork . The five-story tower rises on the north side. A two-storey octagonal structure sits on its square, three-storey substructure . This is broken up by arched sound arcades and glare fields and provided with an onion hood . The entrance is on the west facade with a modern sign .

The single nave nave is divided into three axes and, like the choir, which is closed on three sides, is covered with a flat ceiling .

Furnishing

  • The church has a wooden crucifix from around 1700, the cross arms of which are decorated with angel heads.
  • The baptismal font is also dated around 1700.
