history

Between 1252 and 1264 Veitriedhausen was referred to as secundum Rithhousen and from 1269 as Riethusen superius to distinguish it from Frauenriedhausen . In 1310 the place name appeared for the first time in connection with the church patronage as Riethusen, since sant Vit is the landlord , which can be seen as evidence of the existence of a church. In the High Middle Ages the place belonged to the County of Dillingen , which came to the Duchy of Bavaria in 1261 . Bavaria was able to enforce state sovereignty until the late Middle Ages because it was wealthy in the place. Otherwise the property was very fragmented. The lower authorities was from the early 16th century in the town of Lauingen, Veit Riedhausen was now a Hofmark under pfalz-neuburgischer sovereignty. In Veitriedhausen, which was under the municipal jurisdiction of Lauingen until 1808, there was a governor of the city. The place came to the district court of Lauingen in 1809 .

Religions

St. Veit in Veitriedhausen

A first church in Veitriedhausen is accepted as early as the High Middle Ages and traced back to the establishment of the village, since St. Vitus (or Vitus) was often chosen to be the patron saint of churches. The church of Veitriedhausen was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1393. It is believed that the old church was a choir tower church and that the tower substructure was built in the 15th century. The building suffered major damage during the Thirty Years' War and construction of today's St. Vitus Church was not completed until 1684 .

Until 1928 Veitriedhausen belonged to the parish of Gundelfingen , after which it became a branch of Frauenriedhausen . In 1987 the church was renovated outside and in 1999 inside.

In 2017, the discovery of a sacrament chalice from the 16th century made headlines.

To the west of Veitriedhausen, near the road from Gundelfingen to Haunsheim , was the town of Sailheim , which was first handed down in 1264. According to sources, there were at least two farms on site around 1270. Here the monasteries Echenbrunn and Obermedlingen owned. The last documented mention dates from the year 1468. The one property that remained on site at that time changed to the Lauinger alms care. The settlement was abandoned in the late Middle Ages.
