St. Leonhard am Ried (Lauingen)
The Catholic pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard am Ried in Lauingen , a town in the Swabian district of Dillingen an der Donau , was built in the 17th century. The church at Leonhardiweg 23, south of the Danube on the road to Weisingen , is a protected architectural monument .
history
Around 1440 the organ and lute maker master Balthasar donated a wooden chapel dedicated to St. Leonhard was consecrated . Soon a pilgrimage to the chapel developed. A church was built in 1480/83, which was demolished in 1646/50. In 1664 it was rebuilt using some remains. In 1730/31 Johann Peter Streitberger added a nave yoke and the choir to the east. In 1892 the tower was demolished and replaced by the wooden roof turret in the west. An extensive interior and exterior restoration was carried out in the 1970s.
description
In front of the south entrance there is a small, two-storey extension between two former buttresses . A clay mount of olives from 1664 is placed above the passage . Around the building with a gable roof is an iron chain, the attribute of St. Leonhard, drawn. At the three-sided end of the choir is a stone slab with the city coat of arms of Lauingen, which is designated 1556.
The single-aisled room with a double west gallery and lance- cap barrel over pilasters is separated from the non-retracted choir by the choir arch. The stucco work was done by Balthasar Suiter in 1731. The simultaneous frescos were done by local painters, in the choir by Franz Karl Karpf, and in the nave by Johann Wilhelm Schreiner. The miracles and graces of St. Leonhard depicted. A view of the city of Lauingen can be seen in the choir. On the walls there are medallions with the apostles , Christ Salvator and Paul by Johann Caspar Birgisser from 1771.
Furnishing
The high altar from 1740 and the side altars (1743) are made by Johann Michael Schroff. The paintings were made by Johann Anwander in 1740/43 : the high altar shows the veneration of St. Leonhard, the left side altar of the Annunciation and the right side altar the dream of Joseph.
There are numerous votive tablets from the 17th to 20th centuries under the west gallery . The choir arch crucifix with putti that catch the blood rays is from 1667.
Sacristan's house
To the west of the church is the lower, two-story sacristan's house, which is also protected as a monument. In the middle of the gable are two large, segment-arched loading hatches . Profiled cornices structure the gable field, which ends with an eaves cornice .
