Ice fishing in general
Ice fishing is mainly practiced in Canada , Finland , Norway , Sweden and Russia ; in the USA mainly on the Great Lakes , where it was introduced mainly by Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian emigrants. Ice fishing has also found supporters in Switzerland in recent years, so that this practice is now often used on Lake Oeschinen .
equipment
fishing rod
The fishing rod is very small (20 cm) compared to a normal fishing rod. Instead of a reel with a transmission, a simple reel is usually used to store the cord. A feather or a soft piece of plastic is often used to detect a bite.
Ice drill
An ice drill is absolutely necessary to drill a hole - the so-called Wuhne - in the ice. The drill can be hand operated or equipped with a motor. In thin ice (to 15 cm) the ice can also with a pimple be punched.
Additional equipment
- Special spikes are used to keep the ice fisherman safe. They are easily at hand, e.g. B. hung around the neck, carried along. When the ice breaks, the needles are pounded into the edge of the ice to help get out of the freezing water.
- The ice trowel is a trowel made of mesh that is used to remove pieces of ice from the hole.
