The railway Karlsbad – Johanngeorgenstadt (Czech: Dráha Karlovy Vary – Johanngeorgenstadt ) was a private railway company in today's Czech Republic . The company was the owner of the Westerzgebirge nearby railway line Karlovy Vary-Johanngeorgenstadt in northwestern Bohemia .

On December 2, 1895, the concession for the construction and operation of a second-rate main line was granted from the central station to be created in Karlsbad to and next to the Donitz grounds of the city of Karlsbad via Alt- and Neurohlau, then using part of the existing Chodau state railway line -Neudek via Bärringen and Platten to the imperial border in the direction of Johanngeorgenstadt with a connection line to the existing Karlsbad station of the private Buschtiehrad railway . The 47 km long route was opened on May 15, 1899.

The operation was carried out by the kk Austrian State Railways (kkStB) on behalf of the Karlsbad – Johanngeorgenstadt railway . After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took the place of the kkStB .

On January 1, 1925, the Karlsbad – Johanngeorgenstadt railway was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

Vehicle use

On account of the Karlsbad – Johanngeorgenstadt railway , the kkStB procured four locomotives of the 178 series and five of the 97 series . The locomotives had the road numbers 178.01-04 and 97.146-148, 154-155.
