Railway sports club

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A railway sports club (ESV) is a company sports association especially for the employees of the Deutsche Bahn Group and their relatives.

history

The railway sports clubs have their origins in the gymnastics and sports clubs of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , which were founded in the 1920s. In the GDR, the railway athletes were organized in the Lokomotive company sports associations.

particularities

In principle, membership in an ESV is open to anyone interested. The ESV, however, often use sports facilities that are located on properties that are managed by the federal railway assets. These sports facilities are made rent-free to ESV if at least 50% of the members are employees or relatives of Deutsche Bahn group companies. Employees from other railway companies are not included in this quota. If the quota is not reached, staggered rents are due. If the quota of railway workers at Deutsche Bahn falls below 15%, the full rent must be paid. This regulation has existed since the 1994 rail reform . Due to the downsizing at Deutsche Bahn and the privatization of parts of it, ESV z. Sometimes difficult to meet these quotas. Membership is therefore targeted among employees of Deutsche Bahn.

Sports offer

The ESV offer a wide range of sports, both competitive and popular and employee sports. The umbrella organization currently nominates teams in 16 sports to participate in the international railway championships organized by the International Railway Union (USIC).
