Railway signals in Sweden

Swedish shape signal

The railway signals in Sweden , which are used in Sweden , are based on the signal images of the shape signals . Nowadays only light signals are used together with the ATC system . The speed restrictions due to the signal images only apply to vehicles without ATC. The cab signaling usually allows higher speeds.

Form signals (Semafor) are no longer included in the current signal book. They are only found on museum railways and very occasionally on branch lines. A rare example of this is the Moskosel station on the inland railway .

Swedish shape signals are similar to the German ones, except that they are set up on the left side of the track and therefore the wing points to the top left in the no-travel position.

Main signals

Main signals follow each other with a distance of at least 800 m and a maximum of 3000 m. If the following main signal is more than 3000 m away, this is announced via a separate distant signal .
