Pietro Morettini
Pietro Morettini (* 1660 in Cerentino ; † March 14, 1737 in Locarno ) was a Swiss builder and engineer.
Life
He was a fortress builder in Besançon , Landau in the Palatinate , Namur and Lucerne . For the canton of Uri and the Ursern valley , from 1707-08 he built the Urnerloch on the Gotthard route near Andermatt , the first road tunnel in the Alps. He then worked again in fortress construction in Switzerland, in the Papal States and in the Republic of Genoa .
The Locarno Cantonal Library is now housed in his Palazzo Morettini residence.
