Bachhrawan Railway Accident

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The railway accident Bachhrawan was the buffer stop crossing of a train in the station of Bachhrawan in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on March 20, 2015. At least 58 people died.

Starting position

The Janata Express from Dehradun to Varanasi of Indian Railways pulled into the station of Bachhrawan to where he planned should hold. There were around 400 travelers and around 85 railway employees on the train.

the accident

About 1400 meters from the Bachhrawan train station , the distant signal read “Waiting for stop”. The engine driver tried to brake, but the brakes failed. He reported this by radio to the dispatcher at the station, who directed the train to a passing track. The driver's urgent request to leave the train on the main track was ignored. The exit signal at the end of the passing track was secured with a safety switch . Since this signal was on “Stop”, the signal-dependent switch was set in the direction of the guard rail and this ended with a buffer stop . The train pulled into the station at around 9:10 am, tried to brake further, but did not succeed, so that it passed the signal that required it to “stop” and hit the buffer stop. The locomotive and the two following cars derailed , a baggage car and a heavily occupied third class passenger car . These were crushed between the suddenly stopped locomotive and the pushing train.

consequences

At least 58 people died and about 150 were injured.
