In the Kyauktaga railway accident on January 28, 1928, the express train from Mandalay to Rangoon , Myanmar (then: Burma ), derailed near the village of Kyauktaga. 54 people died.

the accident

Four plates of the track of the line had been unscrewed on a bridge. The investigation into the accident suspected that this was done with the intention of derailing a freight train and then robbing it . The freight train drove at such a slow speed that the track stopped. The following express train, the “Mail”, from Mandalay to Rangoon, on the other hand, derailed and four of its wagons fell 50 meters deep into a river.

consequences

54 people died and more than 30 were injured. A man was arrested on the matter and sentenced to death , but the sentence was overturned.
