Langenbach railway accident
In the Langenbach railway accident on August 13, 1926, the accelerated passenger train 858 derailed in the entrance to Langenbach (Oberbay) station on the Munich – Regensburg line . Twelve people died.
Starting position
Construction work took place in the area of the Langenbach train station. Work was also carried out on a switch in the station entrance. The tongue tip of the switch was only temporarily fixed with a screw clamp for the trains to cross . Therefore, the switch could only be driven at 45 km / h. The maximum permissible speed was otherwise 80 km / h.
The accelerated passenger train 858 was en route from Regensburg to Munich . He was not supposed to stop in Langenbach, but rather drive through the station according to the schedule .
the accident
The foreman of the track construction work failed to notify the trains of the speed limit imposed. When entering Langenbach station, the accelerated passenger train 858 drove over the switch at the normal line speed of 80 km / h. The vibration from the train caused the screw clamp to loosen and the switch tongue to shift. Therefore, at 9:28 a.m., the fourth car of the train and the cars following it derailed. The derailed vehicles pushed into one another.
consequences
Twelve people died. In addition, seven people were seriously injured and 20 slightly injured. The responsible foreman fled.
The local volunteer fire brigade was deployed and doctors from Freising were brought to the scene of the accident. Aid trains from Landshut and Munich were used. On August 16, the route was again passable in both directions.
