The Rostock ice rink is an ice rink in Rostock , which is currently the home venue of the Rostock EC . It is regularly open to the public as an ice rink in winter.

With 2000 seats, the Rostock ice rink is the largest ice rink in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Ostseestadions .

history

The predecessor of the hall was an uncovered speed skating short course with a length of 133 meters, the Rostock short course , built in 1958 . Especially youth competitions like the GDR championships in 1967 took place here.

In 1970/1971 the ice rink was built in the same place and opened in September 1971. It became the venue for the ice hockey team of BSG Chemie 70 Rostock . From 1972 to 1978 she took part in the East German ice hockey competition, the second highest division.

Today the hall's 111 meter long track is also used for short track . The German championships in 1996, 1999, 2001 and 2004 took place here, as well as the international Hanse Cup since 2002 .

At the beginning of the 1960s, a plan for an ice rink in Rostock was published, the roof of which was to be supported by a prestressed cable net construction on two 128-meter-long, symmetrical hyperbole-shaped trusses.

future

Since the ice rink is out of date and in need of renovation, a new ice rink is to be built as a replacement in the northeast of the city next to the HanseMesse on the IGA Park site, which is to be realized as a combination construction together with a swimming pool.
