The ice rink Essen-West (also: Eissporthalle am Westbahnhof ) is an ice rink in the Frohnhausen district of the city of Essen .

The hall

The stadium had a capacity of around 5,500 seats until 2010 and was then reduced to 3,850. The ice surface is 60 by 30 meters, another training surface is 48 by 10 meters. In addition to other ice hockey and figure skating teams , such as the Essen Youth Figure Skating Association (EJE) , the hall is also used for school sports. The ice stock sports club ES Essen also plays its home games in the Essen-West ice rink. Furthermore, public runtimes are offered, the extended program of which also includes disco evenings and similar events. The hall, which is owned by the city of Essen, is operated by the specially founded sponsoring association Eissporthalle Essen-West .

In its original version, the Essen-West ice rink was identical to the Kenston Arena Duisburg, the Hannibal Arena Herne and the Iserlohn ice rink . However, each hall has since been expanded individually.

Clubs and events

The ice rink is currently the home venue of the Moskitos Essen ice hockey club from the Oberliga Nord . It is also used by the Essen Youth Figure Skating Association , which in cooperation with the German Ice Skating Union organized the German Figure Skating Championships from December 11th to 13th, 2015 .

Refurbishment 2010

A hall renovation was carried out in 2010. Among other things, the ice processing system, the fire protection and the boards were renewed according to the new standard and the grandstands were reduced to an audience of 3,850 people. This was necessary in order to meet the applicable fire protection regulations. The rehabilitation costs of almost four million euros are covered by the economic stimulus package II .
