The Eiszapfenstek is a clamping knot . It can be placed around a freely accessible rod at one end; a general variant that can also be used for bars without freely accessible ends can be found under the web links.
It shows its advantages when it is tied around a smooth, cylindrical cross-section and loaded in the longitudinal direction. It can also be used on conical objects. A stopper knot should be attached at the end to prevent the rope from slipping out (to prevent it from slipping through).
The knot was introduced by John Smith at the 1990 annual general meeting of the International Knot Makers Guild .
