Marina V. Rodnina ( Ukrainian Марина Володимирівна Родніна Maryna Wolodymyriwna Rodnina * 19th November 1960 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a German biochemist Ukrainian descent and Director of the Department of Physical Biochemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen . Her research focuses on how the ribosomes , the protein factories of cells, work.

Career

Marina Rodnina studied biology and received her PhD in molecular biology from Kiev University in 1989 . As a scholarship holder of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , she came to the University of Witten-Herdecke in 1990 , where she worked as a research assistant from 1992 and qualified as a professor in 1997. From 1998 to 2008 she was a professor in Witten-Herdecke . Since 2008 she has been director at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. She has been a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) since 2004 and of the Leopoldina since 2008 .

Act

Rodnina is an expert in large protein complexes . She was able to develop new methods for studying the functions of ribosomes and contributed to the elucidation of protein biosynthesis . Together with colleagues, she was able to create a film sequence of the ribosome activity for the first time.
