The Ice Age Museum

The Ice Age Museum in Lütjenburg in Schleswig-Holstein deals with the effects of the Ice Age on the formation of Northern Germany. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the tower hill castle on the outskirts of the small town. The museum is operated by the Schleswig-Holstein Ice Age Museum eV, which has around 100 members , and is open all year round - with restrictions in the winter months.

The museum explains the processes that shaped the shape of the state of Schleswig-Holstein with the hilly east coast, the sandy center of the state and the flat coastal region in the west. In addition to exhibits of various fossils , minerals and rocks, the museum is creating a teaching collection on the subject of the Ice Age, which not only documents the Ice Age geology , but also topics from the biology and life of the people of the time. The museum's collections are intended to appeal to all interested age groups, but an emphasis is placed on experiential education . Regular special exhibitions on related topics are presented in the museum.
