The Lake Ejagham located in western Cameroon . It was discovered in 1908 by Alfred Mansfeld and named by him as "Dead Lake near Nssakpé (Ekeu land)". With an area of 700 * 1050 meters (0.49 km²) it is one of the smaller lakes in Western Cameroon. In contrast to the other lakes in Western Cameroon, it is not located in a volcanic crater, but in a collapse crater. Its maximum depth is 18 meters. The age of the lake is estimated at 10,000 years. The lake is considered a sacred place for the Ejagham , the ethnic group living in the area around the lake.
fauna
The fish fauna of the lake consists of seven endemic species of cichlids , a small species of barbel and two tooth carps , one from the genus Fundulopanchax and a light-eyed fish ( Procatopus aberrans ). Of the two tilapia which includes mouthbrooding species Sarotherodon ( Sarotherodon lamprechti and S. knauerae ) and four of the substrate brooding genus coptodon ( coptodon deckerti , C. Ejagham , C. fusiforme , C. nigrans ) to.
