Ekhofplatz (Schwerin)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ekhofplatz in the old town of Schwerin recalls the actor Conrad Ekhof .

As a space with tree planting and Ekhof bust (between theater and museum, so-called Ekhofplatz), it is entered in the state capital's list of monuments under the name Kleiner Moor .

The square is located northeast of the Old Garden between the State Theater , the State Museum and the theater's former set house. In the 19th century it served as a stately carriage right in front of the theater.

The promotion of Ekhof and his Schönemann Society by the theater-friendly Duke Christian Ludwig II with a fixed salary and playing time in Schwerin only enabled the freedom to found the "Academie der Schönemannische Gesellschaft" on April 28, 1753. It only existed for a short time but it provided important impulses for the German theater industry.
