Elías José Jaua Milano (* 1969 in Caucagua , Miranda ) is a Venezuelan politician . He was Vice-President of Venezuela under Hugo Chávez from 2010 to 2012 and was appointed Foreign Minister by him on January 16, 2013.

Life

Jaua, a graduate of the Universidad Central de Venezuela and later a sociology professor, has held various positions in the Chavez government since 2000, including Minister of Economics and Minister of Agriculture and Land ( Agricultura y Tierras ). At the beginning of January 2010 he was appointed Vice-President of the Council of Ministers for the economic-manufacturing sector. When Vice President Ramón Carrizales resigned on January 25, 2010, Chavez named Jaua as Carrizales successor.

On October 11, 2012, following the presidential election , Chavez appointed Nicolás Maduro to succeed Jaua as Vice President. Jaua was considered a candidate in the gubernatorial election in the state of Miranda , where he was to run against the defeated presidential candidate of the opposition, Henrique Capriles .
