Caucagua is a Venezuelan city in the state of Miranda , the administrative seat of the Acevedo district. The name comes from the Cumanagoto language and is said to mean 'wild water'.
For a long time the village was called the Valle de Araguata . In 1752 it was renamed Caucagua. The Bishop Mariano Martí named it Nuestra Señora del Valle de la Santa Cruz de Caucagua in 1784 . The population was 2422 in 1783 . In 2001 the city had about 35,000 inhabitants.
The importance of the village grew as it was on the way between Caracas and the east. It was a hub for cocoa haciendas, which were the economic engine of the region. Many of the inhabitants are largely descendants of the black slaves who were used to grow cocoa in colonial times .
