El Popular

El Popular is a Spanish-language Uruguayan weekly newspaper.

It is the official organ of the Partido Comunista de Uruguay . Its first edition appeared on February 1, 1957. The responsible editors from the very beginning were Enrique Rodríguez, Eduardo Viera and Reyes Daglio . At the beginning of the civil-military dictatorship that ruled Uruguay from June 1973, however, its first epoch ended. When the editorial office and equipment were destroyed as part of a military campaign, the newspaper was discontinued in 1974. After the end of the dictatorship, it was relocated again from March 1985. This second phase of its existence lasted until it was discontinued around 1992. It has now been published every Friday since April 18, 2008. The price of one issue of the newspaper in 2008 was 15 pesos .
