The Partido Comunista de Uruguay (PCU) (German: Communist Party of Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan party founded in 1921 . She takes a Marxist-Leninist point of view.

It emerged on September 21, 1920 from the Socialist Party of Uruguay (PS), in which a majority of the members voted for the transformation into a communist party. This resulted in the spin-off of the PSU under Emilio Frugoni . The leading figure of the party for a long time was Eugenio Gómez , who presided over it from its founding until 1955. He was followed by Rodney Arismendi as general secretary. The PCU's first major electoral success dates back to 1946. The party only plays a subordinate role in the Uruguayan party structure. The party's official press organ is the weekly El Popular .
