Alcira Legaspi

Alcira Legaspi de Arismendi (born February 22, 1914 - November 19, 2010 ) was a Uruguayan politician and author.

Alcira Legaspi, wife of the former PCU general secretary and co-founder of the Frente Amplio Rodney Arismendi , was a preschool teacher and has published various books on this subject. During the civil-military dictatorship that ruled Uruguay from 1973 to the mid-1980s, she fought this system and was in exile in Moscow during this historical phase . She was a member of the Central Committee of the Partido Comunista de Uruguay (PCU) and held the function of education secretary within the party. In October 2010 she was honored by the Fundación Rodney Arismendi and the Consejo de Educación Inicial y Primaria (CEIP) for her life's work as a lecturer and pedagogue. Legaspi died at the age of 96 and was buried in the Cementerio del Buceo .
