El desembre congelat
El desembre congelat ( German "Frozen December" ) is a popular, traditional Catalan Christmas carol . It has a profane origin, and its melody is very similar to the French drinking song Quand la mer rouge apparut ( German When the Red Sea Appeared ) from the 17th century. It is very likely that the song was adapted in the middle of the 18th century when everything French was considered modern. The song appears for the first time in print in the song collections Cansons de la terra , Volume 1, edited by E. Ferrando Roca in 1866, under the title Cansò de Nadal ("Christmas song " - still without mandatory Catalan spelling), and in 40 cançons populars catalanes (German "40 Catalan folk songs"), first series, from 1909 under the title Cançó de Nadal ("Christmas carol") together with the Christmas carol El noi de la mare .
This Christmas carol is particularly widespread in Mallorca .
