The Elbit Hermes 450 is a reconnaissance drone from the Israeli manufacturer Elbit . The Hermes was designed by the Elbit subsidiary Silver Arrow , which is why it was originally called the Silver Arrow Hermes 450 .

history

The first drone demonstrator, which was still designed with two engines, was presented in 1994 as Elbit's answer to the IAI Heron . The drive consisted of two UEL-AR-741 rotary engines, each with 38 hp. The final single-engine version, initially called the Hermes 450s to distinguish it , flew before the end of 1998, the exact first flight date is not known. In July 1997, the Israeli army bought the system, which has been in use since 2000. The Hermes 450 was from the Ministry of Defense of the United States during test US Armed Forces Joint UAV and evaluation programs tested mid-2003.

From the drone that was from 2004 for the British Army Watchkeeper 450 drone with optical sensors, one operating in the Ku-band radar and an automatic takeoff and landing system equipped.

The drone has also been in service with the Singapore Army since January 2007. The aircraft are also in use for Croatia, the Cypriot National Guard and Mexico.
