Hamburger Berg with the "Elbschlosskeller"

The Elbschlosskeller is a Hamburg pub located on Hamburger Berg 38 in the St. Pauli district . The Elbschlosskeller is open 24 hours a day and, according to the company itself, is the toughest pub in Hamburg.

history

The Elbschlosskeller has been running its gastronomic service since 1952, and little has changed in the appearance of the interior since then. The Elbschlosskeller is named after the former Elbschloss brewery , which no longer exists today. The Elbschlosskeller does not have a menu. The Elbschlosskeller gained a greater degree of popularity through the serial killer Fritz Honka , who looked for his victims in the bars of the Hamburger Berg. There are serious, criminally relevant disputes among the guests to the present day.

Trivia

In Hamburg there is the saying “too ugly even for the Elbschlosskeller”. The exact origin and the time of origin of this idiom are unclear.

Due to the widespread closure of places of public encounter during the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020, the Elbschlosskeller first had to have functioning locks installed because it has not been closed since it opened and the locking system was not functional.
